Dance! The mission of a dance company could hardly be more concise, simple and clear. This is the title of the Harghita Ensemble's programme, in which dancers give their testimonies about dance. Their work, coloured with literary texts, poems and folk songs, is of course united by movement and dance.
The creators of the Harghita Ensemble's production "Dance! - Dancers about dance" are the members of the company themselves. Almost without exception, they have been working with children, youth and adult dance groups for a long time: teaching, guiding and helping them. Few of them, however, have had the opportunity to express their ideas through the interpretation of professional dancers. In 2015, with the support of the National Cultural Fund, they were given an extraordinary opportunity to present their own creations by their colleagues. Endre Gábos, the director of the show, has created a unified production from the dance works of the others, using his own choreography. The dances of the different regions were put together according to the wishes of the members of the ensemble, so that most of the harghity dancers took part in the creative process. During the performance, the audience can see dances from Gyimes, Nyárádmagyarósi, Gyergyó, Szentbenedek, Satu Mare, Mierra, Buza and Vajdaszentivány.
Besides authenticity, the main virtue of the show is honesty. The dancers do what they do best: not ballet or contemporary movement, but barely reworked authentic folk dance. They do not play a role assigned to them, but show themselves, expressing their own feelings in the language of dances of their own choosing.
