This year, on 7 January, was the 250th anniversary of the Siculicidium, the cruel massacre of the Szeklers in Madéfalva. In memory of this bloody historical event and its victims, the Harghita National Szekler Folk Ensemble has prepared a new programme.
The director of the new dance piece is Szilveszter Kelemen, a dancer of the ensemble, who has already proved his skills in the past with a previous show, the production of Juliet the Fair Maiden.
The plot runs through the story and then tries to give a sense of the fate of the survivors, those who stayed and those who left, those who wandered away. He admits that the director is trying to explore the events and their consequences on both an intellectual and emotional level, up to the present day. A series of anxieties are expressed. Finally, he poses a final question: is there a danger for posterity today?
The choreography was also choreographed by the company's dancers, Róbert Ábrahám, Gabriella Kósa, László Péter and László Szabó, who helped the director to put together the show.
Erzsébet Györfi contributed with her singing.
In Madéfalva, on 7 January, as part of the anniversary celebrations, the audience could already see excerpts from the Harghita Ensemble's dance performance entitled Madéfalvi veszedelem (The Madéfalvi Peril).
The premiere of the full show will take place on Saturday, 15 March at the Municipal House of Culture in Chisinau from 7 pm, followed by a second performance in Zsögöd on Sunday, 16 March, also from 7 pm, at the local cultural centre.
