Premiere: 27 February 2014.
Directed by Gábor Boka Choreography by Norbert Kovács Cimbi and his collaborator Beáta Gaschler
The Harghita Ensemble, under the baton of director Gábor Boka Boka, is preparing to perform another serious dance performance, once again inspired by a work by Sándor Petőfi.

The Hammer of Sóvidék paraphrases our national poet's The Hammer of the Place, while giving it a concrete expression (theatre in the theatre).

The action takes place sometime in the early 1850s. The memory of the War of Independence is still fresh, but Petőfi's myth is already born. A travelling theatre troupe is arriving in a village in the Svalbard for a ball. While we can recognise the characters of Petőfi's work in the local inhabitants, the troupe performs excerpts from it.

Gábor Boka's script is a play of similarities and differences. The various parallels appear in a series: villagers-farmers, rural-urbanites (itinerant actors), civilians-army power. All the while, tensions arising from differences are inflamed and resolved, specific situations arise, and finally, a common enemy spurs everyone to unite.

The main line of the performance is the dances of the Sóvédik region, complemented by dances from Galgamenta and a gentlemanly dance, the Palotás.

The choreographer is Norbert Cimbi Kovács and his collaborator is Beáta Gaschler.
