The Harghita Ensemble pays tribute to a double anniversary with a new programme, a new adaptation of Ludas Matyi, a work by Mihály Fazekas, the author of the play, born 250 years ago in 1766. His work, completed in 1804 and divided into "four deductions", circulated in manuscript form for decades until it was published in 1815 in Vienna by the student and later renowned mathematician Ferenc Kerekes as the work of an unknown author. Afterwards, Mihály Fazekas offered his corrected and completed work for publication two hundred years ago, "from Debrecen, January 12, 1816", so that it could be officially published under his name for the first time the following year. The first folktale in Hungarian literature to be written from an "old Hungarian tale", it was a source of joy to its readers on its publication, and its success has been unbroken ever since.

Company member Szilveszter Kelemen directed the dance re-creation of the work with the help of his partners Róbert Böjte, Gabriella Kósa and László Szabó, with dramaturgical advice from Misi Fazakas and musical editing by Attila Mihó. The production, which follows the thread of the original story, is based largely on dance motifs from Csík and Küküllő, while presenting dances from Sóvidék, Buzai and Centei, őrkői cigány and Boncida. A restrained but expressive repertory underpins the free and serene performance of the characters. The work's message is still valid today, and the humour of the story promises fun for all ages.
